Chase Lo (they/them) is an actor, playwright, and choreographer based in Toronto.

In 2009, Chase was selected to develop a play in fu-GEN’s (Asian Canadian Theatre Company, Toronto) Kitchen Program under the guidance of then-artistic director Nina Lee Aquino. A staged reading of Blood Stain—a play inspired by a real-life case of ‘nipper-tipping’ and the pervasive effects of racism on a Chinese-Canadian family—was showcased at fu GEN’s Potluck Festival. For a year, Chase was mentored by Andrea Nann, a choreographer, performer, arts educator, and artistic director of Dreamwalker Dance Company (DDC). Their mentorship was funded by the OAC - Access and Career Development Grant (2012).

From 2015-2016, they were a participant in Buddies in Bad Times Theatre’s Emerging Creators Unit (ECU), which Sunny Drake directed, providing them with mentorship and training to devise and perform Al/Lex — a 25-minute solo interdisciplinary performance with dramaturgy from Mel Hague and direction from Tawiah M'Carthy at the 37th Rhubarb festival.

In 2019, Chase participated in the Taipei Shorts II Festival in Taiwan as both a playwright (Lucky Stars) and a performer (Flight 109). In 2021, they were selected for the Next Generation Showcase — “New Faces” Program sponsored by the Stratford Festival.

Presently, Chase is developing a play called Ruby— about Asian and migrant transfeminine and gender non-conforming sex workers—with support from OAC theatre recommender grants (Nightwood Theatre, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Toronto Fringe Festival, and Theatre Passe Muraille), Toronto Arts Council, Canada Arts Council, and as a recipient of the Promising Pen Prize (Cahoots Theatre).

As a choreographer, they’ve had the privilege to work with Tan Vu on ANIVIA—a musical theatre play with Vietnamese folk music and folk tales—since its concept presentation for the Emerging Creators’ Unit showcase at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre and most recently for its excerpt presentation at CAMINOS 2023 Festival (Aluna Theatre). In addition, Chase is the workshop choreographer on Aaron Jan’s PING!—an epic coming of age, sports comedy that follows a young Chinese-Canadian woman in her journey of competing in a legendary doubles table tennis tournament (Tarragon Theatre).
